Engineering Partnership Model: How Bafang Delivers Long-Term Value for eBike Brands



At Bafang, we believe the strongest partnerships are built on co-engineering — and delivered with flexibility. For over 23 years, we've helped bicycle brands reduce development complexity and accelerate product launches. With more than 370 patents, a 5,000+ m² CNAS-accredited laboratory, and over 20 million systems sold worldwide, we've earned our place as a stable, long-term partner.

A complete system with built-in flexibility
Bafang is one of the few suppliers globally that designs and manufactures a complete drive system fully in-house, including drive units, batteries, displays, and shifting hubs. This capability allows us to offer a flexible partnership model, enabling brand partners to create differentiated value.

This in-house depth underpins a dual-track model. Brands can either take our complete, pre-engineered interconnected system, or integrate our components with third-party parts as needed.

Option 1 – Take the complete interconnected system
For brands choosing the complete system, two service programmes are available:
i. Bafang Dealer Direct Service (DDS) — we support dealers directly. This programme is initiated through mutual agreement with brands to ensure dealer satisfaction. The DDS network now covers the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Poland, Czech Republic, the UK, Italy, and the USA.

ii. Brand-exclusive service programme – the brand manages dealer service with our backing

Option 2 – Integrate third-party components as needed
We also provide dedicated system-matching support, leveraging our fully-equipped laboratory and a 20-person technical integration team to validate performance to production.
To ensure service quality, the DDS programme is reserved for our complete system track. In this model, brand-exclusive service is provided to support our partners.

Partnership from day one
'Dedication to Customers' Success' is at the core of Bafang's values. "From day one, once a project is set up, we sit with our customer, not in a separate room," says Gary Xu, Technical Director of Bafang. "We are often involved in customers' projects from the early concept stage, advising on feasibility, component selection, and production-ready solutions."

One example is Bafang's long-standing partnership with French rental specialist Arcade, which focuses on robust and connected electric city bikes. "Beyond the riding experience, reliability and low maintenance are critical for our projects. We appreciate the support from Bafang with their innovative products, team know-how and fast response — as we have since 2014, we have grown together," said Mr. Frédéric Lucas-Fosse, CEO of Arcade.

Driving what's next
Looking ahead, we see an industry moving toward deeper integration and intelligence. We're increasing investment in software algorithms and intelligent transmission systems.

Earlier this year, our H730 motor with 3-speed automatic shifting earned the German Design Award 2026. At China Cycle in May 2026, we introduced the RG E510 — a 5-speed auto/manual electronic gear hub, the latest in our GVT family. It pairs with our M210 (city), M410 (trekking) and M430 (cargo) mid motors delivering up to 120 Nm of torque, to create a package that reads rider intention and anticipates the road.
